Insightful talks, fantastic posters, lots of lively discussions - EGU was a blast this year! Thank you to everyone who joined our [CR6.8 Machine Learning for Cryospheric Sciences](https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/session/52609) session! We had a lovely social with many of the presenters in the Danube park and distributed some ML4Cryo stickers ;) Celia Baumhoer, Hameed Moqadam, Kim Bente, Andrew McDonald, and Julia Kaltenborn organized the ML4Cryo session at EGU. If you are interested in organizing a session, let us know!
30 Apr 2025 - ML4Cryo @ EGU 2025 - Oral Talk on The ML4Cryo Research Community, Vienna, Austria
Kim Bente presented our community building efforts in her talk [Breaking the Ice Between Machine Learning Experts and Cryosphere Scientists - The ML4Cryo Research Community](https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/EGU25-725.html) in the Session "Sharing data, tools, and knowledge: resources and initiatives". The session helped to look into other efforts, and to share experiences and learnings with each other.
12 Mar 2025 - ML4Cryo @ IAEA's Technical Meeting, Vienna, Austria
Julia Kaltenborn represented ML4Cryo at its first Technical Meeting! IAEA invited experts on a 'Technical Meeting on the Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence Capacity to Support Water Management', from 10 - 13 March 2025.
06 Mar 2025 - Invited Talk @ SIAM - CSE25, Fort Worth, Texas
Julia Kaltenborn gave an introduction talk "Assessing Machine Learning's Impact on Cryospheric Sciences" at SIAM this year. Mauro Perego and Trevor Hillebrand organized an incredible session on "Machine Learning for Ice-Sheet Modeling and Observations". The audience was so engaged and all the conversations that happened around the session will be well remembered!
08 Nov 2024 - EGU blogpost - Did you know? Machine learning can help us understand the cryosphere!
Andrew McDonald, Julia Kaltenborn and Kim Bente wrote a blogpost for the EGU Cryospheric Sciences blog ['Did you know? Machine learning can help us understand the cryosphere!'](https://blogs.egu.eu/divisions/cr/2024/11/08/did-you-know-machine-learning-can-help-us-understand-the-cryosphere/). We provide a short case study on how machine learning can help cryospheric sciences, looking at mapping, forecasting and downscaling of Antarctic sea ice. We also introduce ML4Cryo and upcoming events. Enjoy your read!
